It is a pleasure to welcome you to join the Eleventh High Performance concrete (11th HPC) and the Second Concrete Innovation Conference (2nd CIC) in Tromsø 6-8 March 2017.

Key note speakers are now ready!

Come and join us in Tromsø!

The two conferences will be overlapping with 11th HPC running 6-7 March and 2nd CIC running 7-8 March 2017. Delegates can participate at individual conferences or both.

Why join the HPC and CIC conferences?

The HPC series of conferences has a long and fruitful history of presenting advances in concrete technology, from its start in Stavanger, Norway in 1987, 30 years ago.
Strongly driven by the need for higher strength and better performance of concrete structures, we may today conclude that concrete has indeed improved significantly over the last 30 years. Based on the present state of concrete quality, the CIC series of conferences, only one arranged so far in 2014, aims at innovative application of concrete in the widest context. The modern world needs innovation to arrive at modern and sustainable solutions.

The 2nd CIC follows the success of the 1st CIC held in Oslo, Norway, in June 2014. The future needs expressed by the industry, the society, such as energy saving, reduced CO2‐emission, and resources use, efficient construction and higher performance to lower cost, are innovation drivers. The 2nd CIC themes will be based on this. To underline the importance of innovation, a contest will be organized to highlight the best innovation in several categories.

We sincerely hope to see you in Tromsø in March 2017 – The coolest place to be!

Greetings from the Organizing committee;
Harald Justnes (Chairman), SINTEF Building and Infrastructure

About Norway:
Norway is the longest country in NW Europe, stretching almost 1 750km (=1 100mi) in a straight line from Lindesnes in the south to the North Cape in the north. A one way trip from Lindesnes to Nordkapp covers well over 2 600km. Width W‑E ranges from 432km to just over 6km at Hellemofjord. The country shares 2 562km of international borders with Sweden, Finland and Russia.

The Norwegian mainland has an enveloping coastline that runs for 2 532km. However, if fjords and bays are included, the total coastline is an amazing 25 148km, with an additional 58 133km if counting islands and skerries as well (overall length: 83 281km, or 51 749mi). Innovation Competition Guide:

Objective:
The Innovation Competition challenges the participants to present novel, but not limited to, innovative solutions that demonstrate how the concrete industry contributes to meet the future challenges of the society. The best solutions will be displayed for international media to attract interest for the potentials in concrete innovations

Participants:
The competition is open for individuals or teams, representing one or more links in the value chain as well as actors in the building and construction industry.

Schedule and Deliverables: The competition has four phases:

1. Abstracts, by the 20. of August 2016
2. Full paper submission, by the 25. of September 2016
3. Review feed back by the 15. of November
4. Final submission by the 1. of January 2017
Presentation at the conference
Award presentation at the conference dinner

Innovation themes:
Each of the following themes will be awarded:

1. Environmentally friendliness or sustainability

2. Buildability - efficient construction techniques

3. Structural performance

4. Service life

The Innovation Competition Committee may give a special price also outside these four themes.

Abstracts:
Maximum an A4 page and it should address the following questions:

1) what is the new technology/process/product?

2) what is the innovation and its relation to the areas addressed?

3) what challenge does it solve?

4) who needs it?

5) how big is the potential market?

Nominees for the awards will be identified in the conference papers.

Papers:
Papers shall be marked "Innovation Contest", and submitted for general review. The proposals marked as participants in the competition will be forwarded to the  Research Committee of the Norwegian Concrete Association for their evaluation and nomination for the final of the contest.

Papers not nominated will be forwarded to the National Scientific Committee of HPC/CIC Tromsø 2017 for evaluation together with the other papers submitted for the conference.

Final Presentation and Evaluation:
The final oral presentations take place in a special plenary competition session at the conference, followed by a final evaluation of the committee. The winner(s) will be announced during the conference dinner.

Abstract deadline for either conference is the 20. of August 2016.

Presentation of Paper at the conference requires a full payed conference fee from at least one of the paper authors.

Deadlines for HPC 6.-7. of March and 2nd CIC 7.-8. of March 2017

1. Abstracts, by the 20. of August 2016
2. Invitation to write a full paper, by the 1. of September 2016

Abstract submission:

The two conferences will be overlapping with 11th HPC running 6-7 March and 2nd CIC running 7-8 March 2017.

Delegates can participate at individual conferences or both. High performance is a multifarious term meaning that it applies to various functions or processes associated with concrete structures: We have chosen the following ones, being the main themes for both conferences.

Presentation of Paper at the conference requires a full payed conference fee from at least one of the paper authors.

Please indicate in the headline of your abstract: If your contribution is within "advances in concrete technology" (HPC-conference) or innovation (CIC-conference), where innovation is defined as: "a new product, a new service, a new production process, application or organisation that is launched in the market or used in production to create economic values. A new idea or invention is not an innovation until it has come to practical application and creates value".

Abstract themes

1. Environmentally friendliness or sustainability

2. Buildability - efficient construction techniques

3. Structural performance

4. Service life

Sub-themes (of which several may belong to more than one of the four main themes)

  • Binders and concrete with low CO2-emission and low embedded energy
  • Use of concrete in low energy building concepts
  • Reduced use of resources
  • Self-compacting concrete
  • Formwork concepts
  • Reinforcement concepts
  • Fibre reinforced concrete
  • Construction under extreme conditions
  • Aesthetics
  • Concrete properties and modelling
  • Fire resistance
  • Ultra-high performance concrete
  • Structural design and modelling
