About the conference

BIOPROSP and Functional Metagenomics are joining forces for a unique joint conference experience. Uniting marine bioprospecting and metagenomics experts to drive innovation, collaboration and scientific breakthroughs. Aiming to translate basic research into applied research with industrial application.

A Joint Meeting of Leading Scientific Communities

Welcome to BIOPROSP 2027 and FMG2027. This collaboration reflects the growing overlap between marine bioprospecting and functional metagenomics, creating a unique platform for knowledge exchange and innovation. The conference unites researchers, industry representatives, and innovators to explore shared challenges and opportunities across marine biotechnology and functional metagenomics.

Two conferences in one:

  • BIOPROSP2027 is an international biennial scientific conference on marine biotechnology, dedicated to translating cutting-edge basic research into applied solutions with real industrial impact. First held in 2002, the conference has evolved into a key meeting place for a broad and multidisciplinary audience. At the same time, it has maintained its strong focus on marine biotechnology, attracting experts from across Europe and around the world.

  • Since 2011, the Open Conference for the international Functional Metagenomics research community has brought together academic and industrial researchers from around the globe. FMG2027 provides a platform for sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration in the study of uncultivable microbial biodiversity through metagenome-encoded functions. The conference also focuses on the development and application of efficient screening and discovery tools to unlock the potential of this vast genetic resource. The aim is to identify novel enzymes and bioactive natural products, primarily through function-based bioprospecting approaches.

Program Overview:

The combined conference spans over three days containing both joint and dedicated sessions:

Tuesday, March 9th
BIOPROSP 2027 opening. A full day dedicated to the marine bioprospecting field.
Wednesday, March 10th.
Joint session: Bringing together BIOPROSP and Functional Metagenomics participants.
Thursday, March 11th.
Functional Metagenomics 2027: The program is dedicated to functional metagenomics topics and subjects.

Flexible Participation:

Participants can choose the format that best suits their interests: Attend the full three-day program, or register specifically for BIOPROSP or the Functional Metagenomics sessions.
