The main tasks are to:
- put ethics on the agenda within Tekna and in society at large
- encourage engagement with ethical issues among Tekna members
- keep Tekna’s ethical guidelines relevant and up to date
Tekna members help shape and steer technological development, and thereby influence what the future will look like. This places a great responsibility on us. We must reflect on our values and the consequences of our actions as professionals.
Ethics is everywhere, and we encounter small and large ethical challenges every day – both at work and in our private lives. Ethical reflection and discussion help us become better equipped to handle ethical dilemmas.
Climate change, the energy crisis and the rapid development of artificial intelligence make ethics more important than ever. Globalisation means we encounter norms and cultures based on different values than our own. Views on what is right and wrong are changing, and we must be conscious of this and bring it into public debate.
The Tekna Ethics Council handles and prepares matters related to ethics. These may be assigned by the Executive Board, or come as enquiries from different parts of Tekna or from individuals. The council may contribute to consultation responses, statements or similar initiatives.
The Ethics Council addresses issues that are important and relevant to Tekna and its members. We aim to highlight the ethical challenges and situations Tekna members face – both at work and in everyday life.
We seek to foster engagement with ethics and ethical issues, and are happy to collaborate with professional networks and local branches on events and similar activities.
