Ethics

Ethical guidelines adopted at Tekna’s Supervisory Board Meeting on 13 June 2021

Tekna’s vision is Tekna creates the future. Tekna’s core values are expressed through three principles: being credible, innovative and courageous. The ethical guidelines provide you, as a Tekna member, with a foundation for ethical reflection on what it means to be credible, innovative and courageous.

Ethical reflection

In our society, we must relate to many laws and regulations that enshrine ethical values and norms. We must also respect ethical guidelines and be mindful of consent, confidentiality and how we express ourselves – including on social media. Tekna encourages its members to reflect on their role as citizens, professionals, elected representatives, colleagues and fellow students.

As a Tekna member, you must be able to stand by your decisions. You should therefore carry out an ethical reflection where you consider whether they:

  • are legal
  • are fair to those affected
  • have negative consequences for individuals, the environment or society
  • can withstand public scrutiny

Contribute as a professional in society

Be courageous – take responsibility for how your contribution to scientific and technological development affects society and the environment.

Be innovative – actively contribute to finding technological solutions to society’s challenges:

  • Safeguard your professional integrity and independence.
  • Assess and communicate risks, ethical dilemmas and the consequences of decisions.
  • Use your expertise in public debate. Be objective and accountable, and show respect for those who hold different views.
  • Seek opportunities that create positive impact and contribute to sustainable development.

Act credibly – give your best professional and social contribution to the communities you are part of:

  • Act considerately, with integrity and openness.
  • Show respect for human dignity and human rights.
  • Be honest and reliable.
  • Collaborate, build trust and support others.
  • Speak up about dangerous or unacceptable conditions.

Your decisions and actions often affect other people. Ethical reflection becomes richer and more meaningful through dialogue with others.
