The 2nd "Tunnels and ITS" Symposium in Bergen, Norway, September 2013
New date for submission of abstracts: 22th of March 2013
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration and ITS Norway are organising the second international symposium on the development and deployment of intelligent transport systems for tunnels with high or low traffic density. The symposium will be held in Bergen Norway on the 18th and 19th of September 2013.
Call for papers
During the next 10 years we expect to open more than 120 tube km of new tunnelsin the western region of Norway alone.
Research and new technology make it possible to minimise the number of peopleworking at road traffic control centres while maintaining a high level of safety.
Tunnels are currently the main user of ITS equipment, due to the potential for catastrophic accidents. As maintenance of this equipment is expensive, life cycle cost is crucial.
The need for efficient and safe solutions in tunnels is growing in pace with the increase in traffic density. Accordingly, planning for traffic breakdown situations in tunnels is gaining in importance. The possibility of an increase in the frequency of complete standstills in vital urban tunnel networks makes ITS solutions critical.
Scientific committee
The organising committee is chaired by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA), with ITS Norway as the secretariat for the paper selection. The following committee of international experts has been appointed to review abstracts:
- Tor Tybring Aralt, Multiconsult (Chairman)
- Peter Sturm, Professor, Graz University of Technology
- Steinar Andresen, Professor ICT, NTNU, Norwegian University of Science and Technology
- Trond Hovland, ITS Norway
- Per Johan Lillestøl, SINTEF
- Kjersti Kvalheim Dunham, Norwegian Public Road Administration
- Eirik Skjetne, Norwegian Public Road Administration
- Laura Väisänen, Finnish Transport Agency
Symposium organizers
The symposium is administered by Tekna, the Norwegian Society of Graduate Technical and Scientific Professionals. The symposium committee has decided to issue this Call for Papers through Tekna.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration is the guarantor for the symposium and is chairing the committee that will evaluate the abstracts submitted.
